Circular walk Rio Santo. About 6 km/2.5 hours without rushing

This beautiful walk starts in the Barrio Alto of Albuñuelas in the Calle Estación in front of house number 122. Keep the fountain on your left and take the small street uphill which then changes into a cobbled path uphill. This cobbled path meets a dirt road, where you turn left.

Follow this dirt road. You will pass some goatfarms. Enjoy the scenery! The rocks and caves, where the Moors lived back in the 13 and 1400 hundreds are up on your right and the river down on your left.







walking the GR7Within about 45 minutes you will come to a slanting T-junction with E4/GR7 signs. The forest road to the right uphill would bring you along the long distance route to Prados de Lopera (15 km) and finally to Tarifa at the Atlantic coast. .

But you turn left here and follow the E4/GR7 signs back to Albuñuelas

You pass the wide river bed which is still dry here, the river has now gone underground. Now you will walk back on the other side of the river bed. The road rises a little. Turn left at the next T-junction.

You will get a nice overview of Albuñuelas and the Lecrin valley, while the Sierra Nevada looms in the background. The dirt road now changes into a footpath.







walking the GR7This becomes the most spectacular part of the walk with the steep rock walls and the views of the river. The footpath descends to a footbridge where you cross the now streaming river. The path uphill will bring you back into the village again. Turn left at the E4/GR7 sign “Prados de Lopera” and shortly you will be at the point where you started.
