Granada seeks more golfers
Best known for the gardens of the Alhambra and the magnificent Alhambra Palace itself and skiing in the Sierra Nevada, Malaga's neighbouring province of Granada is now gaining a new reputation as a golf destination. With the opening this year (2007) of Santa Clara golf and Medina Elvira golf we now have 3 quality courses within a 30 minute drive and many more just a little further from Casa Azul in the Lecrin Valley.
We will of course book your tee times prior to your arrival if requested at the courses of your choice and supply you with accurate directions at no extra cost.
This part of Spain is, as yet undiscovered by the majority of golfers so apart from weekends the courses are very quiet and unlike the Costa's you will not have marshals hurrying you along. The other big plus here is the cost. The average green fee is about 40 euros which is considerably cheaper than the Costa's for what we consider to be better courses in a far less expensive part of Spain.
This area is the most fortunate part of Andalucia in terms of climate. Gentle winds from North Africa, warm
Mediterranean waters and the protection provided by the high Sierra Nevada peaks give it a sub tropical micro
climate which is unique in Europe. We have an average temperature of 20c with 320 days of sunshine every year.
Our local course, Santa Clara golf is the most recently opened course which is just 20 minutes down the road. The Santa Clara golf course has been designed with respect for the natural environment of indigenous wildlife and vegetation. Of particular note at Santa Clara golf are the spacious and fast moving greens. The course has a large variety of obstacles and is perfect for all handicaps. The course is highlighted by its third hole, a never ending par 5 of 550 meters, as well as its seventh, thirteenth and fourteenth, which require golfers to make long and accurate shots. 18 Holes 6598 Metres Par 72
The backdrop to Santa Clara golf is the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountain range. Where else can you play golf in the shadow of snow capped mountains in the morning and sun bathe on the Mediterranean beaches in the afternoon
On site facilities at Santa Clara golf include a driving range, putting green, chipping area, shop and club hire.

Just a few miles further down the motorway is our other new 18 hole course. Medina Elvira has only just been finished and no expense has been spared by the developers, the Balboa Group and designed by the renowned Aymerich Golf Management Co. The entire complex has been integrated in to the Galeria forest and because it is located between 2 rivers and the Cubillas reservoir water is a key feature. This is a very attractive area that is dotted with tall Holm Oaks, Poplars, Elm, Pine. Ash and Olive trees. The very generous greens have an average size of 641 square meters and the course is 6460 meters with a par of 72.

This course was completed in 1986 and is situated 8km south west of Granada in the village of Las Gabias. The club house has been constructed on top of a very large hill at 2100 meters above sea level. It has commanding views over most of the course and to the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. It is a mainly flat course with undulating fairways and 3 lakes which make the 5th, 16th and 17th holes a bit tricky. The 15th has a very narrow fairway with a difficult tiered green to finish with. This is my favorite course because it is a little easier than the other 2 and you can take the buggy to your ball rather than keeping to the buggy paths. For us elderly golfers this is a big plus
18 Holes. 6037 meters. Par 72

Motril which is about 50 minutes drive has a very nice flat course bordering the sea with a par of 70
for 18 holes. In fact to get from the 2nd to the 3rd you have to walk about 100 meters along the beach. Situated close to the beach at Playa Granada the views out
to sea are breathtaking. On site facilities include a shop, driving range, putting green and chipping area. Baviera Golf at Caleta Torre Del Mar. This course is just over an hour away and has magnificent sea and mountain views Anoreta Golf at Rincon de la Victoria.
Other courses nearby include Club El Candado near Malaga harbour. Golf Almerimar at El Ejido which also has tennis and horse riding available. Golf Playa Serena at Roquetas De Mar and La Envia Golf near Enix which has a swimming pool. There are another 50 plus courses on the Costa Del Golf west of Malaga and we believe that several of them are worth the 2 hour drive especially La Carla which is regularly featured in all the best golf journals. 36 fantastic holes with facilities to match.
